On the last day of 1997, a teenage dream became reality. In the heart of Dar es Salaam's vibrant Msasani peninsula, a young visionary opened the doors to something special—a bar with a mixed crowd and a laid-back atmosphere that would define a generation.
Along with the bar came a small, unassuming guesthouse. Just 12 rooms, but each one designed with comfort, relaxation, and a casual homeliness that would become QBar's signature.
What started as one person's vision quickly became Dar's best-kept secret—a place where embassy staff, travelers, locals, and expats could gather without pretense. No velvet ropes. No VIP sections. Just good people, good drinks, and good times.
Moments that shaped our story
Word spread fast. QBar became the go-to spot for Formula 1 enthusiasts, pool sharks, and dart champions. The 12-room guesthouse offered weary travelers a home away from home, just steps from the energy of the bar below.
Weekend nights became legendary. House DJs, live bands, karaoke sessions that lasted until sunrise. QBar wasn't just a bar—it was where Dar came alive. Sports fans packed in for every major event, and the pool tables never went cold.
The city evolved, and so did we. While maintaining that welcoming character that made us famous, QBar continued to serve its loyal community—a safe, fun, family-feel place that transcended generations.
Under new management, we've grown slightly bigger and embraced a modernized look while keeping our soul intact. Rebranded as Q2Bar & Guesthouse, we honor three decades of history while writing new stories every night.
